Thoughts of 2008's Top 10 Movies

With the holiday season fast approaching, here's my personal opinion of this year's best movies. You'll probably disagree with me, so let me know what you liked best. From 10th to 1st, here we go:

10: "Sex and the City"
Wow, that's a horrible way to start off this list. I've actually seen some of the show, and I'll tell you this: mind rot. Recommended for people who don't know what porn is, NEXT!

9: "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian"
To be honest, I don't know why I don't like this series. It's quite innovative with its story and the detailed fantasy characters, but it just doesn't appeal to me. Or maybe because the kids are British, I don't know. Personally, I preferred "Bridge to Treabithia", just because it had more heart along with fantasy. Recommended for kids who aren't allowed to see "Lord of the Rings"

8: "WALL-E"
Oh my god, this is my favorite movie of the year, period. It's beautiful animation, beautiful characters, beautiful sets, and a simple but brilliant story. One other reason I think I like it is the characters tell so much without saying too many words. Maybe us humans should pick up on that (at least, I have). And if you think there was a preachy "Take care of the planet or else!" attitude, listen to the commentary. Not everything is intended to have a moral. Recommended for everyone.

7: "Quantum of Solace"
Maybe I just don't care for movies with British people voicing. This goes for Narnia and Harry Potter, and it might be why I stopped watching Thomas when they got the new narrator. James Bond also falls into this category. Or maybe its because I don't care much for movies that take a dump over a well established character. Recommended for those who are Bond... James Bond fans, or like watching things that make no sense (even the title)

6: "Mamma Mia!"
Oh great, another musical movie. I'll admit I like "Grease" and "The Producers", but that's about it. This one though, does seem to have some appeal. It looks like the essence of the musical was captured properly, so it's worth a look. Recommended for those of you who want to prove to your kids/siblings that "High School Musical" isn't the only musical

5: "Iron Man"
Hell yes! This was the first awesome movie I saw in 2008, and I thought it was great. This definitely deserved to be in the Top 10, and it's probably the real underdog movie of the year. A little known superhero, a director known for comedies, and an actor with a shady past was standing against this movie... and it beat Marvel's expectations. With great pacing, great acting, and some jaw dropping special effects, this is one of personal favorites. Recommended for those who just want a movie that delivers what it needs to, and in one of the best ways possible.

4: "Hancock"
Here is a different kind of superhero movie. This one makes the superhero a complete jerk, along with being arrogant and a drinker. With the large amount of superhero movies, this one is the one to take the idea and twist it around that DOESN'T SUCK OR REFERENCE RETARDED THINGS. (Not yelling. Just emphasizing). Plus, it's got Will Smith, so you can't go wrong. Recommended for those with a willingness to see the other end of the superhero spectrum.

3: "Kung Fu Panda"
I knew this movie was good, but I didn't realize it was this good. Although it still relies on celebrity voices, this one brings the simple idea of a kung fu movie, animates, throws in some not excessive comedy, and you've got a hit. It's a simple movie, with a simple moral "Violence is the answer to violence". Recommended for kids who aren't allowed to watch violent kung fu movies. Or see Jack Black's face.

2: "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull"
It's a weird thing for me and the Indiana Jones quadrilogy. I never have seen any of them, so I can't give a fair opinion. I've heard it wasn't as good as the originals, and in some extreme cases, that it "raped" Indiana Jones. However, let it slide. It's definitely worth watching. Recommended for those who are willing to ignore the fact that aliens are in it.

And number 1 is: "The Dark Knight"
What, are you surprised? If you are, what bat cave have you been in? (argh, I just had to.) This is one of the few times I've seen a sequel exceed its predecessor in story, effects, characters, and just plain out hype. With some clearly soon-to-receive Oscar performances as well, this is one you can't go wrong with. (It's not my favorite, but it's up there.) Recommended for anybody who can stand for a movie to be dark
